For every problem, there is the herb and the tea for it. Ironically, most of them actually do the job and treat you naturally. Personally, I have always preferred coffee to tea; however, Zhourat has got me hooked! So I wanted to share that with you, and tell you about its benefits, and how to make Zhourat – The Lebanese Herbal Tea!
Zhourat (Z- hoo-rat) is a common Middle-Eastern herbal tea that is made up of a blend of dried wild flowers, herbs, leaves, and fruits. The main ingredient being Rosa damasena (rose petals) which is known for its widespread health benefits, from reducing pain to preventing bacterial infections.
What is in a Zhourat Mix?
Zhourat is soothing blend of dried herbs and flowers. The exact mix varies depending on each region, but the main ingredients are consistent. Rose petals, for instance, are included in the majority of Zhourat mixes. As for the rest, it is usually a combination of the below:
- Rose Petals
- Chamomile
- Dried Oregano Leaves
- Spearmint
- Fennel Seeds
- Dried Sage
- Lemon Verbena
Benefits of Zhourat (Lebanese Herbal Tea)
Helps Fight Colds
The lemon flowers that are found in Zhourat mixes are a rich source of Vitamin C. These flowers give the drink a citrus taste, and more importantly, makes the drink a great source of antioxidants. Moreover, Zhourat mixes contain marshmallow flowers (Althaea officinalis), that are have anti-inflammatory properties.
Fights Insomnia
Zhourat contains chamomile flowers. Chamomile flowers are extremely helpful in muscle relaxations and improving the quality of sleep.
Calms Upset Stomach
The flowers in the Zhourat will help in settling a stomach, improve digestive health, and reduce menstrual pain.
How to Make Zhourat (Lebanese Herbal Tea)?
If you want to make the Zhourat blend yourself, then you just have to mix equal amounts of the above listed ingredients. Otherwise, if you already have the mix ready, then making it is simple:
1. Boil Water
2. Add 1 to 2tsp of Zhourat to Boiling Water
3. Allow to Steep for 5 minutes
4. Add Honey or Sweetener of Choice
Zhourat is commonly consumed before bed for a good night’s sleep, or as a hot drink after a heavy meals.

If you have a Middle Eastern Market near you, they probably have this tea blend.
Otherwise, Amazon has been selling a few brands of this herbal tea.
