In a previous post about Zhourat, we touched on how tea is the medicine to everything in our Middle Eastern families. We wanted to expand on that, and talk about the benefits of tea and which herbs and plants are used as a natural medicine for the common health conditions we face.
Immune Support
Precaution is better than cure. A strong immune system is the key to staying healthy and not getting sick. So, the best way to fight diseases is to strengthen your immune system and get it ready to fight any possibility of infection. If you have a good immune system, then germs and microbes have no chance in staying in your body.
To support the immune system, look for teas containing Echinacea or The Purple Coneflower. Echinacea has long been used to support immune function. You can drink this anytime of the year, and reap its benefits.
Keeping Warm
When you don’t live in cities that have tropical climates, you will need to drink hot drinks that will help keep your body warm. Instead of opting for the sugary hot chocolates, my family has taught me to go for the healthy tea options to raise my core body temperature.
While simple combos of green tea and cinnamon sound perfect, the advice has always been to look for more herbal options such as teas containing Elderflower. The latter, for instance, not only warms up your body but also gives it a Vitamin C boost.
Respiratory Support
Asthma and respiratory problems are unfortunately very common these days. For that, I was taught that the best teas to drink are the following:
Eucalyptus Tea
Peppermint Tea
Licorice Tea
If you can find a combo containing any of the above, then you are all set to support your respiratory system.
Sore Throat
I hate it when my throat starts scratching. I hate it even more when it becomes sore, and I feel that I am about to get sick. For that, I have always found comfort in teas containing licorice, ginger, and lemon. Another one look for is Marshmallow Root tea; however, don’t expect it to taste sweet like Smores. Marshmallow Root tea tastes very earthy and remains very beneficial as it contains a mucus-like substance that coats and soothes a sore throat.
Fight Insomnia and Anxiety
Tried and true. Chamomile tea is so magical in its ability to relax you and fight both insomnia and anxiety. This is the perfect bedtime drink to guarantee a good and lengthy night of sleep.
That’s just a short look into the many of the medicinal benefits of our favorite combos of tea. What about you? What’s your favorite tea combo? Let us know in the comments below.
