This past fall the shirt jacket AKA the SHACKET was very on trend. Now, I am definitely not the type to fall for trends but I felt this would be something I could carryover regardless of the trend. I enjoy plaid and I feel this is a good layering piece that can carry me through the years.
Here is the thing though, the plaid shackets I am seeing are in a cream/neutral tone, the specific shacket I picked out from Target is not in that category. My thought process was the more colors the better because this is a piece that is supposed to show your personality since it’s not your standard shirt or jacket. Also, with these colors I am able to create more outfits since I am able to tie the colors in the shacket to what I am wearing, which brings me to the first styling tip.
Style Tip #1
The first tip on how to style a plaid shacket is what I mentioned above, which is to tie in the colors of the shacket. So here is how I am doing that. The shacket has brown and black so I am going to pair the shacket with a black pair of skinny jeans. Yes, I know skinny jeans are “out” but I feel good in them and that’s what matters. Next, I am pairing it with a pair brown of booties. I love the combination of a shacket and booties!
Style Tip #2
The second style tip is to pair the shacket with tighter fit clothing. The reason for this is most shackets are a little oversized so when you pair it with a bodysuit and skinny jeans it puts the shacket at center stage.
Style Tip #3
A shacket is more casual in nature so my third style tip is to dress it up. Grab a turtle/high neck sweater pair it with some leather leggings and heeled booties, you have a semi dressed up effortless look!
Style Tip #4
This brings me to the fourth style tip which is styling a shacket with a high neck top. Specifically, a tighter high neck top and a top that ties in the colors of the shacket. We are bringing in all the tips from above for this one!
Style Tip #5
The last tip is to roll up the sleeves. Of course, this is for those warmer days, but a little trick to “roll up” the sleeves is to grab a rubber band and tie up the sleeves near the bend of your elbow. Doing this will give the shacket a little effortless look like how it is shown/styled above.
Seriously, you can wear a shacket with just about anything! Dress it up or down with any of your favorite tops and bottoms throw on sneakers or booties and you have a very cute outfit. Comment below your favorite ways on how to style a plaid shacket.
