Armenian Genocide Recognition is the formal acceptance that the Ottoman Empire performed the systematic massacres and forced deportations of the Armenians between 1914 and 1923. So which countries recognize the Armenian genocide?
This is a long overdue battle for recognition of basic human rights. The Armenian community is dispersed all around the world. For us, it almost feels like a second Genocide is being committed with the denial of the Genocide. We still have a long battle ahead of us as we are in the middle of yet another conflict with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but we persevere.
As of 2020, governments and parliaments of 32 countries, including the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Russia and Brazil have formally recognized the Armenian Genocide.

Countries That Have Yet to Recognize
There are many countries that don’t recognize the Armenian Genocide, perpetrators and re-perpetrators in all. There is even a country out there (not going to name it) that don’t recognize Armenia as a country. Despite having a presence for over 3500 years.
Mexico has yet to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide. This is surprising as in April 2015, the Mexican Senate held an Armenian cultural week dedicated to Armenian history. The event also commemorated 23 years of diplomatic relations between both nations.
The Danish Government does not officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, stating that judgement is to fall on historians.
The government of the United Kingdom does not recognize the Armenian Genocide. It considers the evidence to not be clear enough to retrospectively make a decision under the 1948 UN convention.
What is the 1948 UN Convention?
The legal framework of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Genocide Convention) codified, for the first time, the crime of genocide. This convention was the first human rights treaty that was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and it signified the international community’s commitment to ‘never again’.
Unfortunately, the current autocratic government of Turkey is applying Ottoman style regimes all around the world. They have recently invaded Syria, after the Lebanon explosion they tried to get their hands on ruling Lebanon. In the past, along with the Armenians, they have wronged Greeks, Kurds, Syrians, and many other nations. Their number one ally Azerbaijan has joined their forces and continue the wrong doings. Breaking peace treaties that are in place and making threats to wipe out the Armenian race.
We, as Armenians, are fighting a very long and hard battle. Although, as history unwinds, it is reassuring to see the countries that eventually come to admit the Armenian Genocide.
There is Anti Turkish Bias here. Also a crusader mentality .All The countries Who support them are Christian nations and politicallly motivated.Show me a Budist nation among them let alone a Muslim nation other then heavily Armenian populated Armenians like else where. .Why Then They refuse to open official historic files???Yes The Turks ordered deportations while Their armies was fighting in Dardanelles Caucasus,Iraq and Yemen during World War II WhileArmenian General Antranik stabbing them toEstablish a great Armenia from Black Sea to Mediterrenia supported by Russia, France,England and indirectly US.A Human Life is worth a universe but the loss of it should carefully be studied before you label My Ancestor a criminal.
A friendly editor says: This sentence, “There is even a country out there (not going to name it) that don’t recognize Armenia as a country.” needs to grammatically edited. “don’t” should be changed to “doesn’t”
Sadly, the most important country that should acknowledge those atrocities is not in your list: Turkey. There is a Germano-Turkish film maker Fatih Akin who made a really good film about the genocide. It’s called The Cut – in case you want to search for it online.
Yes thank you for your important comment! They haven’t acknowledged it and it’s leading to the conflicts happening RIGHT NOW! Please spread awareness if you can. Thank you so much!
PS: amazing recommendation. I would also add The Promise and The Architects of Denial if you’d like to further the education on what’s happening.
Thank you so much for your comment, recommendation, and self education on the topic. We really appreciate it!
Wow I had no idea this list was so long, history is always so intriguing to me. Also how it keeps getting re-written over the year as well blows my mind.
It is rather interesting how many things that happen in History people do not acknowledge. Sad when you think about it.
