Ohannes – a hidden gem on Hankash street in the Metn district of Bauchrieh that has every single component of a successful restaurant.
The cuisine is Lebanese Armenian, so expect to find the typical Lebanese cold and hot mezzes – from the Hommos and Moutabbal to the Kebbe-s and the Chicken Livers. Alongside the classics, you will find items flagged as “Ohannes Speciality” if you want to explore the chef’s creativity. Some of these dishes are:
- Tajen Djej
- Eggplant Roll
- The Ohannes Salad
- Rice Kebbeh
- The Kessabi Patates
Alongside the delicious mezzas, Ohannes, being a Kebab house, will offer you a variety of options when you check “Mashawi” section of the menu. Prepare to have a difficulty in deciding on if you want to go for the classic kebab or one of the many options — but whatever you end up choosing, make sure you do not skip their Kebab Karaz – traditional Armenian Kebab topped with wild sour cherries.
If you want to go the unconventional route, try their speciality items, either the Dochka or the Beyti.
The Dochka (aka Toshka) is a Middle Eastern street food common in the Syrian Armenian cuisine. Made by filling a pita bread with spiced minced meat, cheese and adding sun dried pepper sauce to the mixture. To make it even more delicious, the pita is grilled before being served.
The Beyti Kebab is another specialty. Made with a thinly flatted dough containing spicy kebab and cheese, and on a bed of spicy tomato sauce. Alongside rice and yoghurt
The food variety, taste, and presentation are all on another level here; however, the owners have made sure all other components are on par. Upon entering you will be met with outstanding hospitality and a uniquely decorated restaurant. You will appreciate the cleanliness around the place, organization throughout their open kitchen, and the fair prices on their beautifully designed menu.
With no ounce of doubt, we can attest that Ohannes is beyond the boundaries of taste.
