Originally we had scheduled Acropolis to be seen on Day One but decided to push it back, which ended up being the best decision cause we hyped it up by accidentally discovering Acropolis from all angles.
-
Central Athens Hotel Terrace
- This is the best spot to view the historic monument. Visit during sunset to get a picturesque view of the iconic Acropolis. You will be engrossed with the painting type of view.
-
Plaka District
- This was our first view of the monument and it was a pleasant surprise as many questions ran through our mind. How did the Greeks decide on the location, how did they build something this grand, how did they build it in the first place?
-
Lycabettus Hill
- This place has a panoramic view of Athens City; to get to it, you have the option of a cable car or a personal car, and then, a little bit of stair climbing. Make sure to visit on a clear day to get the best view. On top of the Hill lies a little restaurant and a Church.
-
The National Observatory of Athens
- The Observatory sits atop Nymphs’ Hill in Thissio, it costs five Euros and has a great view of the Acropolis lit up at night. It is the place to visit to get a view of the city, Acropolis, and neighboring planets.
-
Hadrians Arch
- In the region of Attica is Hadrian’s Arch, declaring the founders of Athens as Theseus and as the name says Hadrian; this arch has a cheeky peek of Acropolis, one that surprised us but proved just how momentous this place [Acropolis] is.

From the inside
- The grand finale came when we hiked up to Acropolis, and boy was it absolutely worth the wait. Whilst you are there don’t forget to visit the neighboring Museums, Theaters, and Temples.
This looks truly wonderful, i would love to visit all that
I would love to visit! It is absolutely beautiful!!
That is so beautiful. I’m hoping to study abroad in Greece next summer, so fingers crossed that I’ll be able to!!
We had a 6-hour layover in Athens a few years back so we went out to go see the Acropolis. But the train we were on broke down and we were stuck there for 2 hours!! Had to go back to the airport to catch our flight. All the more reason to go back to Greece though 🙂
I would really like to visit Greece one day. I love history and exploring ruins, wondering about the people who used to live and work in such places.
Really cool post and I love the pictures! I’m glad you sort of hyped up Acropolis before seeing the monument itself, goes to show sometimes it’s about the journey not necessarily the destination! Thanks for sharing
Wow! These are the places I love to visit that are part of my culture and taste!
Can I just start by saying that Greece as been on my bucket list for years.
I love this post. Great job and hopefully one I can got to Athens.
I’ve always wanted to go to Greece and your post made me so jealous!! Can’t wait to eventually go there one day. I’ll add this place to my travel list!
